The Sustainable Initiatives Fund Trust (SIFT) is charitable trust that provides vital financial assistance to innovative Canterbury-based waste minimisation projects.

SIFT has been operating since 2005 providing funding and advice to numerous Canterbury based projects that look to divert waste from disposal into the environment. It is governed by six Trustees who have a broad range of experience and expertise.

We provide grants and loans to projects that we consider are innovative and will significantly reduce the disposal of waste to the environment or inspire others to rethink about what waste is: a potential resource, a feedstock or raw material for another industry.

We consider Rekindle’s Whole House Reuse project to have the potential to inspire others to reconsider demolition waste. This is why we provided funding to Whole House Reuse in the first stage of the project for the deconstruction of an earthquake damaged property in Christchurch, and have continued our partnership to fund the next stage: Design.

The start of stage two – the Design stage, and the production of the book containing the catalogue of resources, we hope will inspire people to reconsider the potential of demolition waste and develop innovative solutions to the problem we in Canterbury currently face –  thousands of tonnes of material generated from the demolition of earthquake damaged properties, whose current destination is the landfill.
